Appearance

When a hair curls back into the skin or grows at a sideways angle, the site of penetration becomes red and irritated. Often times, a bump will emerge that is painful to the touch. Causes

b) Acne Flare-Up:

Skin irritations (like a bad case of acne) can cause ingrown hairs to appear after a fresh shave or worsen a chronic condition you are already battling.

c) Muscles Full of Stress:

When muscles are tense during a shave, the chances of suffering ingrown hairs usually increases. Try to relax by softening your skin and hairs with a warm washcloth.

d) Didn’t Take Your Time:

Whether you are shaving the arm pits or shaping your beard, if you don’t take the proper amount of time needed to carefully remove unwanted hair when using clippers or a blade – the threat of ingrown hairs will increase.

e) Unsanitary Razors and Blades:

Shaving with dirty, rusty, or old blades not only causes ingrown hairs to develop, but can also spread bacteria to any nicks and cuts you may have suffered during the process. Before and after using your usual razor, make sure to disinfect with a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol.
